NDIS termination agreement reached

NDIS termination agreement reached

A final settlement of outstanding issues related to the NDIS Project (a joint venture of the New Zealand and Australian National Libraries) has been reached recently in Sydney. The termination of the contract for the project has been fully resolved between the two libraries and Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC). CSC will pay A$9 million (approximately NZ$10.5 million) to the libraries. This sum covers the monies paid to the supplier during the active life of the project.

Work on the computer project ceased late in 1996 after the decision was reached by both libraries not to proceed with a substitution exercise when a software component failed. Christopher Blake, chief executive of the National Library of New Zealand, says the positive outcome of negotiations, on the eve of a binding arbitration process, reflects the nature of the contract, which was originally negotiated in 1995. "The library, and the joint venture, negotiated a good contract which allowed us to pursue a negotiated settlement and ultimately to seek fair compensation from the supplier", he said. "The library's pursuit of this resolution to the project has been long and intense, but has brought us the best result we could have expected."
