New version of What'sHot software

The purpose of this section is to alert readers of Asian Libraries to new products, services and resources that may be of professional value or interest. Information is taken from publicity provided by the producers and is not evaluated or assessed for accuracy. Inclusion in this section does not mean the Editors of Asian Libraries or MCB University Press in any way endorse a particular product, service or resource. An item listed here subsequently may, if appropriate, also be reviewed in a relevant section of Asian Libraries (a new journal, for example, in the Reviews section).

New version of What'sHot software

Resource Discovery Unit has released a beta version of What'sHot software. The package contains a "customisable" search engine, a Web crawler and a client. The software is designed to support shared indexes of resources and can be used to index Web pages. It may be configured to index and search any other types of resources (videos, books, museum items, etc.), but the relevant documentation and samples are yet to be released. What'sHot supports not only remote indexing, but decentralised real-time indexing as well. This means that any site can run its own indexer (crawler) to update the central index. The package can be used to support medium-sized collections (up to a million records). You can visit its home page at http://what-shot.vic.cmis.csiro.au/home.html
