Written by a journalist, this book provides a good overview of the wealth of information on the Internet and how to find it.

The author begins by discussing how to frame your search and even gives a quick lesson in Boolean searching. In the chapter on search engines Schlein goes through the major search engines explaining what each one does best, search options, search tips, and special features. He also discusses subject directories such as Yahoo and Infomine and Meta‐Tools such as SavvySearch. Specialized Internet tools are discussed such as people finders, mapping tools, ready reference tools, and types of discussion groups. A chapter each is devoted to government sources online, public records online, news sources online, and business tools. There are also chapters which list sources of government public records online state by state and private online sources of public records. Other chapters discuss how to manage information, how to evaluate it for accuracy, credibility and authority, and the privacy issue. Three sample searches are discussed to help users get ideas about how to proceed.

This is a very practical book with the Web sites listed, their URL and a brief description of each site. A useful book for both librarians and library users of all types of libraries.
