What concerns you about library finance?

What concerns you about library finance?

On reviewing this issue of The Bottom Line, I am taken by the depth of problems and concerns we are faced with throughout our libraries today, and yet, enlightened to find an array of options, "best practices", projects and possibilities, and a growing sense of entrepreneurialism to find solutions to difficult questions. In each issue, we provide articles and columns related to the broad topic of financial management, with the goal of having enough practical information for readers to apply the writer's theories and suggestions in their own libraries and information centers.

To highlight an article, Dr Park offers a business model for fund-raising with such common sense appeal the reader is left with the feeling that "I can do this!" As our Editorial Advisory Board Members reviewed this article, I was approached by one member who commented, "I am not sure if it was the reference to the Music Man or what, but this gentleman has a strategy that works. He is doing the work that needs to be done!" I believe you will find the applicability in what Dr Park offers here as sage words of advice, from a true expert in library fund-raising.

I draw special attention to our new and improved "In the News" column. We plan to devote expanded breadth to one or two topics with each upcoming issue in this column. I hope you have the time to contact me previous to Volume 14, Number 1 (2001) and suggest a theme for this column. Librarians across the county, country or globe may be struggling with a financial situation that you and your library may have a solution to, via a success story. If you have a practice or program in place to discuss, please feel free to contact me or anyone on the Editorial Advisory Board. Your ideas are welcomed and appreciated. By highlighting your developing or implemented programs, all of our libraries will be able to benefit from your experience in excellence.

As we complete this volume, I would like to thank everyone on the board, the columnists, and the MCB University staff for helping me throughout the year. Your dedication to the journal does not go unnoticed.
