Somewhat more dramatic perhaps is the opening of the Georges Creek Regional Library, Lonaconing, Maryland. According to the Associated Press, this is the area's first library in 58 years. Residents raised $150,000 in private donations over a period of 13 years and received $400,000 from both the state and Allegany County. The library will serve about 5,000 residents, as part of the Allegany County Library System. http://www.libraryjournal.com/articles/news/thisweek/20010129_17414.asp
