Much of Professor Goodman’s effectiveness as an educator is displayed in his talent for judiciously gathering together fellow educators and scholars to comment on and enlighten the field of corporate communications management.

This book, updating the 1994 volume, Corporate Communication: Theory and Practice, is a collection of papers which examines the professional practice of corporate communication in the USA. Again based on the proceedings of the Annual Conference on Corporate Communication, held at Fairleigh Dickinson University, the collection provides case studies, reading lists, and expert discussion of key functions of this emerging management discipline.

Professor Goodman opens each of the nine chapters with an overview of a major communication management topic. Essays and case studies develop commentary and illustration. The result is a comprehensive map of today’s corporate communication knowledge‐base as seen by US practitioners and academics. While much of the case study detail and financial and legal context for communication management is particular to the USA, there is much food for thought here for all managers ‐ and not only for communication system and event specialists.

Particularly valuable discussions included cover the issues of truthfulness in public relations and marketing products, corporate culture, corporate citizenship, and corporate identity. This can be a challenging background reader for students of corporate communication, public relations, and related strategic management courses. This book also provides an excellent insight into why readers should consider attending the FDU conference to participate in satisfying debates and to learn about theory‐based professional practice from some leading experts.
