Growth and development stem from extensive planning. An important area of this is setting targets, and so the continual success of an organization depends on reaching them. Objectives are a good way to stretch individuals and realize the potential of the group at large.

A common misconception, however, is that it is difficult to set targets for certain jobs and roles. Target Setting and Goal Achievement explains how to do this at both individual and team level. The guidelines are supported by detailed case studies.

The book adavises how to:

• use visualization techniques in target achievement;

• integrate targets within competency systems;

• differentiate targets from job descriptions;

• make use of progressive approaches such as 360‐degree feedback; and

• use targets to help to bring about change.

The first three sections of the book deal with setting the targets, while the final section deals with goal achievement.

The book merits a place on the bookshelf of anyone involved in training or human‐resource development.
