New qualification for European Computer Driving Licence trainers

New qualification for European Computer Driving Licence trainers

The British Computer Society is introducing a new certified training professional (CTP) programme to validate the competence of European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) trainers.

The programme aims to ensure that the same quality standards are applied to trainers as to the delivery of the ECDL qualification. This will ensure that candidates are better able to evaluate the quality of a training provider.

Pete Bayley, director of ECDL UK, said: "We know that many ECDL trainers already train to a very high standard, but we want to ensure that the most competent are recognised."

Trainers who have been awarded a CTP certificate will be able to use the associated logos and branding as a differentiator in their promotional material, demonstrating their adherence to best practice and improving their career prospects as an ECDL trainer.

Test centres will also benefit by being able to benchmark their trainers' competence, offer them standardised evaluation and improve the company's effectiveness, as well as by boosting staff motivation and esteem.

Candidates will be able to distinguish which training providers have been assessed on the basis of quality, and so choose the provider that offers the best match for their needs.

There is no examination to pass to become a CTP. Instead, candidates have to provide a range of documentary evidence, such as training plans, session plans and evaluation forms, to show that they satisfy the skills and knowledge requirements of the programme. They must also provide performance evidence that consists of being assessed during a training activity by independent evaluators.

The programme is suitable for those who hold the ECDL qualification and have some experience of teaching or training. Since the pilot programme was introduced, more than 1,000 trainers have registered their interest and more than 100 individuals have undertaken the CTP programme, with most having already achieved success.
