As we begin our fourth year as Editors, Hetty and I realize that we owe much of CDI’s success to the Journal’s Associate Editors (Professors Tom Stone, Julia Richardson, and Nikos Bozionelos), Advisory Board Members, and the countless ad-hoc reviewers who give freely their time and talent to the journal. We would be remiss if we failed to publicly acknowledge the support from the staff at Emerald. In particular, we express our gratitude and appreciation to Nancy Rolph, our publisher.

We are pleased to report that over the last two years, the number of submissions increased, and both the review time and the acceptance rate decreased. For instance, submissions are up 25 percent, the average turnaround time is down to 38 days and the acceptance rate is hovering just below 20 percent. These changes have resulted in the publication of high quality articles; and, we fully expect this positive trend to continue into the future.

In July 2010, our application to Thomson Reuters was approved. Indeed, the inclusion of CDI in the ISI/Thomson Reuters database is a tribute to the quality of the journal. CDI is now a “Thomson Reuters (ISI) listed journal.” 2011 promises to bring more good news. CDI will be added to ScholarOne’s Manuscript Central. This system offers “EarlyCite” functionality which in turn will help to raise the journal’s impact factor as articles will become citable at a much earlier stage in the publication process. These two developments signal that CDI has “arrived” as a serious scholarly journal.

While we continue to be interested in publishing mainstream career research, moving forward, we are expanding the scope of the journal. We are keenly interested in research dealing with topics in the broad areas of human resource management and organizational behavior that have implications for careers and managing careers. Therefore, we encourage HR and OB researchers to submit their research to CDI for consideration. CDI publishes theoretical papers, review articles that offer new insights and research directions, and empirical studies. Acceptance decisions are based solely on the merits of the manuscript and no preference is given to one topic or methodology or level of analysis over another.

We intend to continue publishing Special Issues on topics dealing with important issues, concerns and emerging trends. Readers and prospective authors are encouraged to contact us with their ideas for Special Issues.

We feel privileged to begin our fourth year as Editors. Our goal is to publish high quality articles that truly advance our knowledge and have the potential to improve organizational practices as well as life and career outcomes.

We look forward to another great year for CDI!
