The Printed Circuit Interconnection Federation (PCIF) is launching a new Web page designed to help electronics manufacturers check the year 2000 compliance of the equipment used in their production lines. Machinery used in printed circuit board fabrication, assembly and test is covered and the information will be regularly updated.
Funded by a grant from the Department of Trade and Industry, the new site has been constructed on behalf of the PCIF by Dorset-based electronics manufacturing consultancy, Noble & Moore. Designated www.ems-y2k.com, the site provides the visitor with links to the Web sites of equipment supplier companies as well as to those companies' general Y2K statements and lists of their individual machines/current compliance status.
Should a visitor to the site be unable to find information on a particular machine or piece of equipment, facilities are provided for the visitor to bring the omission to the attention of Noble & Moore. The consultancy will then endeavor to provide the required data as part of its regular weekly updating of the site.
Commenting on the new site introduction, PCIF Director Frank Coultard said: "As the new millennium approaches, electronics manufacturers are increasingly anxious to make sure that their production will not grind to a halt in January 2000. This new site will go a long way towards ensuring that they aren't taken by surprise."
