The third party CAM system stores the image data and plot parameters in a shared hotfolder. The AUTOPLOT Server constantly monitors the hotfolder and automatically starts the plot action upon arrival of a new file. All requested layers are submitted to the plotter queue, and optionally, text fields such as date and time are added to the film.

When all of the mentioned operations have been completed successfully, AUTOPLOT Server removes the file from the hotfolder. In case of errors, the files are moved to a predefined directory and a log file with all error messages is created.

The AUTOPLOT application is designed to run unattended in normal operation. The operator can control the automated operation and view the status of submitted jobs through a Graphical User Interface.

Karel Tavernier, vice-president Barco ETS says: "It is important that our customers can fully benefit from their investment in our range of top photoplotters. Thus we must provide them with automated tools to increase their productivity. Furthermore, our products, hardware and software, must integrate with all major third party products – competitive or not. This is the only way to achieve compatibility with our customers."
