Valor Computerized Systems has donated its design–for–manufacturability (DFM) software to the Government–sponsored Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Design Scheme, set up to increase the skills and numbers of PCB designers in the UK. Valor will provide its Enterprise 3000 software, worth 600K Euro, to the Federation of Electronics Industry's (FEI's) Electronic Design Realisation (EDR) Centre, which was unveiled today at Tweed Horizons, Newtown St. Boswells, Scotland.

A recent study reported that by 2006 there will need to be a 25% increase in the number of skilled PCB designers in order to meet the needs of the UK electronics industry. The EDR Centre has been established to provide young people with access to professional qualifications and provide skilled designers with recognized, on–going training programs, delivering 700 new and up– skilled designers to the industry within the next three years.

Jeff Thomson, President of Valor Computerized Systems Europe said, “The FEI's PCB Design Scheme will provide the UK electronics industry with the much needed, highly skilled design engineers required to sustain and boost British design and manufacturing expertise. A key part of this initiative is the recognition of how the PCB design stage fits into the overall context of the design–through–production process, often including multiple manufacturing sources; hence the crucial concurrent role of DFM within the PCB layout dataflow. Valor is very pleased to contribute its DFM technologies to such an innovative and important initiative, which will undoubtedly help shape the future of the UK electronics design industry.”

William Campbell, Director of the EDR Centre said, “I am delighted that Valor has chosen to be one of the EDR centre's industry partners. I am convinced that with their help and commitment we will ensure the EDR centre is a big success for the UK electronics and PCB industries. I look forward to working closely with Valor as we develop the EDR centre initiative further.”
