A defining time for coaching

A defining time for coaching

Sparrow, S.Personnel Today, (UK), 6 September 2005, Start page: 23, No. of pages: 1

Purpose – To look, very briefly, at the growing popularity of coaching as a development tool, and at the reasons for this growth, and to clarify what is meant by coaching. Design/methodology/approach – Points out that coaching is often confused with mentoring but quotes Jessica Jarvis, an adviser to the CIPD, that as long as the organization is clear about why it is using coaching, this confusion isn’t particularly a problem. Suggests that the desire for accelerated learning has prompted a lot of the growth in coaching, as has its adaptability, and refers to several UK organizations which have successfully introduced coaching into their training and development programmes.Originality/value – Highlights a human resource practice that is “leaving its infancy and heading into adolescence”.Style: ViewpointISSN: 0959-5848Reference: 34AW241
