Liz Barlow kicks off this edition with an analysis of the issues involved in talent development. She also encompasses some important issues in succession planning and leadership development in her article.

Roland Yeo uses his research in Singapore organizations to look at organizational learning factors. His article builds on pieces that he has already published in this journal.

Marie-Anne Chidiac develops ideas about coaching practice and her article can be usefully read alongside the review article on “Catching the executive coach: increasing emotional quotient and leadership capability on the top deck.”

Mentoring is another popular one-to-one approach and David Clutterbuck offers advice on the neglected issue of the running of mentoring programs.

The last authored article is by Graham Dawes and it opens up an area not explored much in the management literature, namely thinking ability. Graham discusses approaches emanating from the work of Feuerstein in Israel.

The first two review articles are about e-learning (“E-learning – the best training option?” and “Adopting an e-learning strategy: the practical considerations of delivering a successful e-learning program”). They can profitably be read together as the first one is based on research on users and the second one on evidence from three companies.

The last review article is on “Work-based learning: golden goose or Trojan horse for the university sector?” As the title suggests it explores the use of work-based learning as it applies to university qualifications.
