Purpose – notes the number of degree-level and certificated e-learning design courses that are being developed in the USA and gives US trainers guidance on deciding on whether to take one of them. Design/methodology/approach – sets out the range of courses that are available and gives an indication of their content. Quotes the experience of people who have taken the courses to show the type of opportunities the courses can open up. Also quotes from course providers about the design of their courses and how to choose between the many courses which are on offer. Discusses the differences between the certificate and degree programs, the different specializations that are available and the different ways in which the courses are delivered. An inset indicates how to find what courses are available. Findings – underlines that the different courses have different strengths and weaknesses and the people should be careful when making their choice.
