A new vocabulary for a new role (training)

Sloman M. Training Journal, March 2007, Start page: 38, No. of pages: 4

Purpose – argues that organizations now operate in a service-led and knowledge-driven environment and that this requires a new model for training. Discusses the new vocabulary that goes along with this new role. Design/methodology/approach – sets out the role that training is now expected to play within the organization and the implications for trainers and the methods that they use. Insets describe the changes that training has undergone at the European Commission and at Swedish Radio. Findings – contends that training needs to change from being “trainer-centric” and should focus on developing interventions that meet organizational needs and that are also appropriate to the learners. Sees this as necessitating a change in training vocabulary to reflect this new role. Originality/value – underlines the need for trainers to adapt to their new role within the organization.ISSN: 1465-6523
