Purpose Describes how some US corporations are developing virtual corporate universities. Design/methodology/approach Quotes from firms that have developed virtual corporate universities, such as Cerner (a US healthcare information technology company) and representatives of firms the offer consultancy to organizations wanting to develop one. Discusses the differences between traditional corporate universities and virtual ones, and the advantages that virtual corporate universities offer. An inset gives advice on setting a virtual corporate university up. Findings Sees the virtual corporate universities as being the next logical step as online technology itself evolves into the Web 2.0, and is able to support collaboration, information sharing and social networking and other features that can be used to stimulate and support learning.
