Purpose Interviews Linda Holbeche, director of policy and research at the UK’s Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, about her career before joining the institute, her views on the future development of the training/learning and development profession, and the future role of the institute. Design/methodology/approach Quotes direct from the interview. Findings Notes her views that learning and development professionals have a key role in helping organizations achieve high performance; that the challenges involved in supporting learning are becoming more complex; and that the ability of trainers to spark off thinking and the sharing of knowledge is as important as the actual content of their training programmes.
