Purpose - Provides a lexicon for lifelong learning. Design/methodology/approach - drawing on the relevant literature and on practical insight, presents a lexicon for lifelong learning; identifies a numbers of terms used in lifelong learning and provides a brief synopsis of why the term is meaningful. Discusses the concept of apprenticeship; highlights how argumentation can create an opportunity for learning and looks at how autonomy, bridges, collaboration, community, culture, discovery and enthusiasm, among others, are all important in creating effective lifelong learning. Suggests that the list of terms, while not exhaustive, can enable educators and managers to develop a more holistic approach to training and education.
