Purpose - Describes how offering employees the opportunity to develop skills that are seemingly unrelated to their work can benefit the organization. Design/methodology/approach - profiles Tequila, an international marketing and advertising firm, that is offering its employees the opportunity to learn Spanish while at work. Identifies the advantages that the firm gains from this. Briefly gives the opinions of the firm’s human resource director and an employee of the value of the scheme. Findings - highlights the firm’s view that the language lessons are helping employees to develop their learning skills as well as increasing the engagement and loyalty to the firm.
