Managing Business Development in Globalized World: Strategies for Excellence

4-5 February 2011, Dewas, Madhya Pradesh, India

In the globalised business environment, historical sources of advantage have diminished in value to the point that they are now fast becoming irrelevant. Research indicates that sustainable competitive advantage in the future will come through investing in people to build organizational excellence. The world believes in the progressive reality that management is much more than a guiding function. A fact of economic life, business development needs to be used as a springboard to drive economy. Today dealing with business development issues has a strategic role that requires dealing with strategies for excellence. The challenges thrown up by this fast-changing business environment have also opened a window to a plethora of opportunities like a dramatic shift in costs through global talent sourcing and de-risking through global task distribution. To achieve global operational excellence through a judicious mix of technology and service delivery models, etc., it is required to solve the talent paradox using an integrated, strategic approach to global business management. To highlight the issue, the fourth national conference PrCON-2011 on “Managing Business Development in Globalized World: Strategies for Excellence” invites conceptual and empirical papers and case studies from academicians, professional, consultants, practitioners, scholars and students focused on the variety of aspects needed to achieve strategies for excellence. Selected papers of registered delegates, from those accepted for presentation at the conference, will be published in the form of a book, which will be published during the conference.

1st Global Conference on Experiential Learning in Virtual Worlds

20-22 March 2011, Prague, Czech Republic

The advent of information and communication technologies has changed how we work, teach, learn, and relate to each other. The idea of a virtual world encompasses online communities, communities of inquiry, formal teaching and learning, and horror and fantasy games. The experiences gained in such virtual worlds, whether high or low tech, impact who we are in the analog world (and vice versa): Who am I? How do we relate to each other? What is my role? How can we be productive as a team? What is mortality? How do we resolve conflict? These questions are addressed, to some degree, through the experiences we have in virtual worlds. What are we learning through those experiences? How can we perform better in both worlds? The aim of this conference is to examine formal and informal learning in virtual worlds in an attempt to critique both its essential characteristics and its future possibilities.

The conference will explore a number of core themes:

  • virtual and global teams;

  • communication modes and etiquette;

  • skill development in MMORPGs;

  • online communities, formal and informal;

  • case studies of experimental projects;

  • understanding mortality in the virtual worlds;

  • sexuality: appropriate behavior in virtual learning worlds;

  • play, fun, fantasy and horror in the virtual world;

  • art of building a virtual persona;

  • emerging technologies within higher education;

  • international technology challenges;

  • blended learning approaches;

  • expectations of performance in virtual spaces;

  • metrics and assessment in virtual worlds;

  • new forms of testing in virtual worlds;

  • organizational issues/strategies in virtual education;

  • professional development/support structures; and

  • role switching between traditional and virtual organizations.
