Abstract

Introduction This paper describes an analysis which had two principal aims. The first purpose was to attempt to identify separate components of the change in labour productivity in various sectors of the British economy in the long run. By labour productivity is meant output per head, the ratio between the Gross Domestic Product originating in an industry and its employed labour force. The time series analysed covered the period from 1951 to 1976.
