Abstract

DSS—déjà vu? The arguments employed in support of the use of Decision Support Systems generated by modelling languages are very similar to the arguments used to implement Management Information Systems: improved management information. MIS was intended to satisfy the information requirements of middle management. Data manipulation was automated—to some extent using models—and the systems could handle on‐line enquiry, storage management, resource planning, etc. MIS was characterised by:
