Abstract

Before one can enter into a discussion about professions and their influence, certain parameters have to be defined. The whole question of what constitutes a profession has been a matter of debate for centuries. In order to attempt a meaningful impact analysis, one has to make a choice in relation to concepts and definitions at the risk of over‐simplification. For the purpose of discussion, the essential attributes accepted here are the ones suggested by Greenwood, mainly:
