Adult education — the way ahead

Abstract

In our diverse amd decentralised system of education, the best tool for the clear and collaborative thinking now needed for the future is the proposed Advisory Council for Adult and Continuing Education which I announced on 6 April. The terms of reference and the drive behind the establishment of this Council owe a great deal to Gerry Fowler, former Minister of State for Education. His articulate and persuasive support of continuing education is well‐known, and he deserves respect for his important contribution in this field.
