Management responsibility for health and safety
Abstract
Management was increasingly preoccupied with economic survival during 1980, and this included reviewing the financial impact of occupational health and safety requirements. Up to now the cost or pace of improved health and safety standards has not been seriously questioned because legislation has been flexible, allowing progressive improvement, and the Inspectorate has worked closely with employers, trade organisations, and the trade unions. This co‐operation is continuing to raise standards in particular fields.
