Abstract

The Training and Development industry is once again at a cross‐roads. The cross‐roads is depressingly similar to the one apparent prior to 1964 with the dominant question being the same, namely — how can we convince management that employee training and development can make a VITAL contribution to organisational performance. Unless and until we manage this, we are unlikely as trainers to enjoy much of a future. What we must do now is to examine our recent past to find out what we have been doing wrong and what we have not been doing that we ought to have been doing.
