Abstract

Glaxo recently installed an ‘intelligent’ conference room in their London Holdings office. Designed by Murray Symonds Associates, in collaboration with the Information Systems Presentations Division of Audio Visual Equipment (UK) Ltd, the room was required to house sophisticated equipment within a limited space while preserving executive meeting room character and company identity. Glaxo administration services manager, Harry Everard, saw the potential of the vacant space as a presentation room when the original boardroom was transferred to another building; facilities for audio visual presentations had been relatively basic until then. The greatest challenge facing the designers was the severe space limitation; resolved by turning the room 8° on its axis, thus creating an elongated V‐shaped rear projection area to maximise the space and shift the directional focus of the room.
