Abstract

It was announced at the end of last year that the Secretary of State for the Environment had ‘called in’ an application by the Haydon Development Group for planning permission to build on 1,500 acres of land to the north of Swindon, Wiltshire. The application was made for outline approval for the biggest privately‐led town expansion in Europe, to include residential, employment, shopping and commercial development, community facilities, open space and ancillary services, at a cost of £5m.
