Abstract

At a time when the British Government has just given the go‐ahead for a new £1.1 billion North Sea gas gathering network capable of landing about £1.5 billion worth of gas a year, a leading pipeline consultant (formerly with the British Gas Corporation) has claimed that the Corporation's choice of the coatings currently used to protect the steel pipes recently laid down needs careful re‐examination. This massive undersea investment, he claims, will be put at severe risk if the newer epoxy coatings are used.
