Decision‐Making as a Factor in the Administrative Process

T.J. MOORE (Assistant Chief Inspector of Schools in the Secondary Schools Division of the Education Department, Victoria, Australia. He has had long experience as a teacher in Victorian primary and secondary schools and has written a history text book widely used in high schools. Mr. Moore holds the degrees of B.A. and B.Ed. of the the University of Melbourne and is currently completing requirements for the degree of M.Ed. of the University of Alberta. During 1963–4 he was awarded a State Government Travelling Scholarship which enabled him to study educational administration in Canada, U.S.A. and Great Britain.)

Abstract

In this article the author discusses decision‐making, which he analyses into elements or stages—defining the problem, consideration of alternative courses of action, implementing the decision, and evaluation of action taken. As an example, he has taken the case where a decision has to be made whether or not to introduce team‐teaching into a school.
