Abstract

Electronic technology has been one of the main factors in determining the present structure of the banking system of most developed countries. The applications of technology and its impact on bank operations from the 1950s is traced to the present day, showing how advanced technology has been applied much faster in wholesale than in retail banking. The changing role of bank marketing and how technology has affected its development are discussed.
