Children's Service in Public Libraries: a report from the U.S.A.

Abstract

Why does the provision for children in public libraries often fall so far short of what it could and should be? Why does it vary in adequacy from one town to the next even more than the adult service does—and that is saying a great deal? Why is there a perennial shortage of children's librarians?
