Abstract

Inventory has always been considered as the safety factor, the lubrication between separate parts of the logistics system which makes the system as a whole function smoothly. It is beginning to be considered more and more as a liability, yet its basic function of provide “insurance” cannot be denied. How, then, can companies balance their need for inventory of some kind against the cost and associated drawbacks of holding it?
