Abstract

LABORATORY WORK in most technical colleges, at least in the engineering departments, is often regarded as an onerous task — at times by the staff as well as the students. Experience has shown that, where laboratory classes are provided on a voluntary basis, attendance is often poor, and any initial enthusiasm soon disappears. The attitude of mind of the teaching staff is frequently such that the successful termination of a laboratory period merely foreshadows the marking of a number of boring reports. Yet practical demonstration of the theoretical side is a very necessary part of any curriculum of technology, and in most schemes, laboratory work occupies at least one third of the total time spent on a particular subject.
