Centenaries, '62 III. SCIENCE BECOMES RESPECTABLE IN 1662

Abstract

It can be said that modern science began in the 17th century, and the most convenient date for marking its acceptance as a worthwhile pursuit is the founding of the Royal Society in 1660. What gave respectability to the new Society was the granting of a Royal Charter in 1662.
