Abstract

The necessary revolution in education. This phrase was coined by Francis Keppel, formerly Dean of Education at Harvard University, then US Commissioner of Education under President Kennedy, and now Educational Director of the new General Learning Corporation formed jointly by Time‐Life and General Electric. Mr Keppel's recent book, The Necessary Revolution in American Education, discussed the shortcomings of the present educational system in the United States, showed why this system as it stands cannot cope with the demands that will be made on it, and concluded that a revolution, both in ways of teaching and in what is taught, is essential.
