Edward Boyle

Abstract

The present outlook for the education service, in terms of resources, cannot be regarded as encouraging. Over the next two years the rate of growth of expenditure on education is being reduced from an average of about 6 per cent to one of of about 3½ per cent. In a service where a very substantial proportion of expenditure is committed on salaries, and sheer numbers entering the schools, a reduction of this size is bound to be severe.
