Careers: TRAINING

Abstract

Up to 4,000 unemployed young people in England, Wales, and Scotland are to be trained for a range of clerical jobs in industry and commerce under a scheme financed by the Training Services Agency; up to 2,500 would be administered on behalf of the TSA by the Local Government Training Board. Young people aged between 16 and 18, who completed their full‐time education last year will be eligible for the Clerical Training Award Scheme, which is part of the special measures to help the unemployed initiated by the Manpower Services Commission through its executive arm, the Training Services Agency. Training is due to start early this year. Local Authorities in England and Wales have been invited to participate in the scheme and to co‐ordinate the training. Although some of the award holders may find subsequent employment with local authorities, it is expected that most of the jobs obtained will be outside the public sector. The young people will not be employees of the participating organisations.
