Abstract

Futurologists are often wrong; they try to peer into the future by extrapolating from the present, but human affairs being what they are falsify their forecasts. Yet it seems certain that unemployment — long term, structural unemployment — will be the greatest single social problem facing us until the end of the century and probably beyond.
