Abstract
Humiliation and defeat are typical words in the 5,000 letters received by the National Extension College and Yorkshire Television in the three weeks which followed the launching of Make it count. The response to the programmes and books is enormous; we have struck a deep vein of need throughout the population. The overwhelming reaction is one of gratitude from adults who are desperate for help.
