Abstract
I make no apologies for devoting the whole of this month's review to one volume. Its merits warrant time being spent on it and, anyway, it's an area that particularly interests the reviewer. Basically it is a bringing‐together of papers prepared for a consultation of educationists held at Herbert Gray College in 1976. The concept growth towards autonomythe contributors admit to be both British and middle class; but as they see the alternative as being elitism for a few and servitude for many they feel committed to it, and indeed this is a propaganda document — albeit well considered, generally very well written, and argued from experience.
