Abstract
A new guide available free of charge from the Hotel & Catering Industry Training Board helps employers, particularly those without access to personnel specialists, to produce informative booklets or notes for employees which will meet the requirements of recent legislation. Employers are increasingly faced with the task of having to communicate a wide variety of information to their staff. This task has been made more complex by recent legislation requiring an employer to give information on wages, hours of work, etc. The legislation cannot cover all the aspects of every employment situation — particularly in an industry as wide and varied as hotels and catering. The new HCITB guide suggests how these special requirements can be covered. It is written in a novel form incorporating a simple specimen handbook for an imaginary medium‐sized hotel or catering establishment, together with comments on the need for including particular pieces of information.
