Abstract

There is a growth of interest in effective time management. In the main, material on this subject focuses on the role of the individual in ensuring effective management of his time. Rarely do writers discuss the impact of the organisation's philosophy, structure and methods; yet these can have a profound impact on effective time management. For example, if the organisation's philosophy tends to support crisis management and penalises managers for small mistakes rather than encouraging planning and risk‐taking, unproductive behaviour will be fostered because:
