Abstract

Whatever the play going on around her, looking at Judy Geeson on stage for an hour and a half must always be an evening well spent; when most of the action takes place in her bedroom — and even more to the point in her bed — the evening was even beter spent. Martin Jarvis provided her with an admirable foil in this light‐hearted romp, well backed‐up by the contemporary couple in the flat across the passage. In the true fashion of farce the two males found themselves — innocently enough of course — in (and even under) the wrong beds on occasion. The advent of an Arab Prince in the second Act produced the odd shaft of sparkling wit, but we felt that a great chance was missed when he was asked; Do you have elections in your country? Surely the ideal answer should have been: Only the Japanese variety. Alas author Trevor Cowper misssed the one. Discussing a business deal, the question was asked: 25,005 pounds or dollars? The “in” response — if you prevaricate much longer dollars will be preferable — appeated to go over the audience's head. Nice one, Trevor!
