Abstract

Engineers are the agents of technological change in society; and the nation's prosperity depends on the success of their efforts. They help to generate the wealth we need to create a civilised, caring society — a society which provides education for the young, and care for the elderly. One would expect, therefore, that the importance of the engineer's role was generally recognised and understood. Unfortunately this is not so, and one is led to question why.
