Abstract

In our March/April issue Dr Parker wrote about the emergence of discount grocery shopping in Dublin. Now he turns his attention to shopping centres, and in particular to the MEPC scheme in Dun Laoghaire and the two Irish Life developments in Dublin city centre. Dublin is well provided with shopping centres in its suburbs; the policy described in this feature shows that the clear intention on the part of the planners is to strengthen the town centres rather than allow retailing to dissipate in the suburbs.
