Abstract

Bar Coding Until recently cheese, fruit and meat have had to be bar‐coded semi‐manually at the point of weighing. Teleprinter Equipment Limited have now produced what they claim is the world's first local label printer. Information is taken either from a store's own computer or from Head Office. The ‘Zebra’ produces all known bar‐code standards in four alternative type sizes and fonts. Labels are dispensed within one to three seconds using standard labels. This enables supermarkets to bar‐code goods packaged in the store — a major step forward towards a total coding situation.
