The City and the food industry —: Do they understand each other?
Abstract
Our Financial column this month takes on something of a new theme. Instead of a discussion of specific companies' trading results, our contributor reports on a conference he attended, organised by the Institute of Grocery Distribution, on the subject of relations between the City and the food industry. A number of themes emerged during the day, including the problems of takeovers, the need for investors and analysts to learn new skills, and how companies can use the stock market more effectively for themselves.
