Abstract

MARINE CORROSION. This month we commence a new volume of CORROSION TECHNOLOGY with an issue almost entirely devoted to the problems of marine corrosion. The yearly cost to the shipping industry from deterioration of metals through corrosion runs into many millions of pounds—no official estimate has ever been made to our knowledge. In the foregoing pages are articles covering the numerous ways available today to shipowners to help them alleviate these losses. The subjects covered include paints and painting systems, cathodic protection, surface coatings other than paints, marine boiler treatment and protection of ‘stored’ ships.
